Retro Switch

Hi guys, not sure if this is the right place to post, but just wanted to know if something like this was possible to build at all. Been searching around about raspberry pi but haven't seen any dual mode projects. Everyone either goes console, arcade cabinet, or full handheld.

Looking to build something similar to the Nintendo Switch that's coming out. Using a PI 3 and WII U gamepad, custom handheld case, or maybe a 2ds if it could fit in there. When built it would have 3 mode settings; default (handheld play style), kickstand (no tv around but friends want to play with you), and hdmi (tv mode).

Mode 1 - Default Mode
Uses a DSI display that's built into the handheld
Uses the handheld controls
Operates from the rechargeable battery

Mode 2 - Kickstand Mode
Opening the kickstand will trigger this mode
Uses a DSI display that's built into the handheld
Kickstand triggers the system to turn off handheld controls and attempt to locate bluetooth controllers (custom or wiimotes)
Operates from the rechargeable battery

Mode 3 - HDMI Mode
HDMI plugged in will trigger this mode
Turns off DSI display
HDMI plugged in will turn off handheld controls and attempt to locate bluetooth controllers (custom or wiimotes)
HDMI plugged in will trigger the Pi 3 to draw power directly instead of going through the rechargeable battery

Problems/Questions
1. Kickstand triggers the system to turn off handheld controls and attempt to locate bluetooth controllers (custom or wiimotes). Is it possible to build a kickstand that triggers this to happen and would the Pi 3 onboard bluetooth be capable of detecting the controllers?

2. HDMI plugged in will trigger the Pi 3 to draw power directly instead of going through the rechargeable battery. Is it possible or is it even necessary to do this? My idea was so that battery life of the rechargeable would last longer if the power didn't always have to go through it to get to the Pi 3. So basically when its in HDMI mode it wouldn't go Adapter > Battery > Board and just go Adapter > Board to power.

You could use a magnetic reed switch with the kick stand to see if it's open or not, and use your arduino/teensy/etc to send a command to your pi which loads some sort of script to look for remotes etc. I've not seen it done before though.
