I haven't forgotten about this thread. Final coat sanded, and at a stopping point due to being very busy with life. Stay tuned! Updates soon!

So, I got a bit impatient with the sanding, but here's how she looks now. The pictures make the sanding (or lack of) very obvious, but in person it doesn't look too bad. Just kinda appears to be a well worn plastic case. I'm pretty happy the paint matched the original color pretty well.

Now to start putting this thing together.

I'm going a bit different with the power on this,

No internal battery. I have a portable 12,000 mah battery pack that is capable of 3a output. I think I will use this instead. If I really decide I need a battery i'll add a small one later as I plan to use this mostly at home/let the kids play it in the car on the go.

Getting there.

Found out i need to order a teensy LC. My pro micro wont have enough inputs.
I'm choosing to use a barrel jack for power input, because I don't want to mess with batteries right now.

I know one thing, I can't wait to finish this shit, my desk is a MESS.

Sorry about my last post being short.

So I got the Teensy in, and started wiring it. I don't enjoy that, it's very tedious. I followed a guide here on sudomod Teensy 2.0 Programming
And used his built in "debug" mode to fix my wiring mistakes.

I wired a USB DAC and used a min stereo amp bought from amazon. I get a bit of static but otherwise get good crisp sound with just a bit of background static. The wii U speakers aren't that powerful, but enough to serve their purpose.

You'll notice I did not include a built in battery, I did this because I want to use my 12000 mah battery backup pack.

One thing I noticed is there is a yellow lightning bolt pretty consistently, but I check actual power draw from a USB power meter, it's saying max it's only pulling 1.3a with everything on (screen/pi3/amp) so I don't think i'm going to worry much about it. This has been a fun project, Can't say I'd do it again lol.

Thanks for all your interest! Kind of expected more feedback/replies but can't have it all lol!

And, Last bit. A gif of a game i actually own. Ya know, copyright stuff.

Great job dude! It looks great.
It sounds like you're a bit burned out!
Hopefully not; there are more projects around the corner!
:)

It looks awesome! To remove the lightning bolt, you need to add this to config.txt :

Code: Select all

avoid_warnings=1
That will just remove the icon, however when the icon is shown the 'turbo' is disabled.. you can remove the icon AND KEEP turbo with this instead:

Code: Select all

avoid_warnings=2
The cause is low voltage to the Pi, measure with a volt meter on the Pi power contacts (at the Pi end, not the power boost end) and make sure it's at or above 5v.. if it's 4.5 or lower then that's not great and means you're drawing too much 5v!

You might need to use thicker and shorter power cables, or a more powerful regulator, or a second regulator :)

Measured voltage at the pi, 5.12 volts. Used the avoid warning switch, no issues :)

Well, that's disappointing. Used for a couple hours and the rpi 3 apparently overheated and fried itself.

I may just go with a rpi zero and forget about trying for n64 or almost perfect snes emulation.

Did you have a heatsink in there?
I just got the wee skinny fan from Kite and I'm hoping that the fan and heatsink will be enough.
Were you running much of an over-clock?
