Freeplay zero, Thoughts?

Post by MadModder » Tue Aug 29, 2017 12:11 am

I was recently looking over a project kit, much like the Game Boy Zero, except built into a GBA and much neater. while the GBZ is undoubtedly awesome, I do wonder if anyone has built such a beast and if so, what are your opinions?

I prefer the GBA form factor, but you problem will be buttons. There isn't really the space for the above pair of action buttons. They can be added, but you have to resort to using tactile switches which feel horrible compared to the standard buttons
Get a small cheep LCD in your project https://www.sudomod.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=2312
Wrap it all round a battery https://www.sudomod.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=2292
Or use a custom PCB to make it really small https://www.sudomod.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=2512
or make it really really really really tiny!! https://www.sudomod.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=2919

Yeah, i like the look of the freeplay zero, nice and clean with the custom PCB, but I would opt to not use the XY buttons, I really don't like the look.

I've been tempted to buy a kit, but I really don't need one, i've been following that project since it first started....

my thought was to first build a Freeplay zero to 'get my feet wet' as it were, then if i was successful, move on to the GBZ which, to me, is a little cooler. also, i think a clear case (and clear buttons) would look amazing on an FPZ
