I can't have a graceful shutdown...

Post by johweb » Tue Nov 15, 2016 1:12 pm

Hi all.
I'm stuck in having a graceful shutdown in my GBZ project for a few weeks now.

I first bought Camble PCB : powering on is fine, but on power off, I've got a kernell error. After many tests, we couldn't resolve this issue.

So I decided to try with another configuration to be sure :
- I made a simple switch using the guide "[Guide] Graceful shutdown switch without Pololu" (I only had a Fairchild JFET but I wanted to try)
- I used another raspberry pi (a PI 2)
- I used a new sd-card
- I modified power-monitor script, just removing lines about the battery monitoring
- I tried with retropie 4.0.2, then with retropie 3.8.1
I had exactly the same problem : power on is OK, but kernel panic on power off...

Camble told me to get a genuine JFET, because lots of counterfeit JFETs are making issues.

So I bought a genuine Vishay Siliconix (just received tonight) and I STILL got the same issue : kernell panic on power off...

I don't know what to do anymore. I really liked to make my GBZ, but staying stuck on this point make me feel crazy and close to give up...
Any idea, anyone ?

That happened to me when the SD card was in the cartridge instead of the pi itself but i'm assuming yours is already in the pi.

Thanks for the hint, but I don't have a cartridge reader.

Pin numbers are not really relevant, the important thing is to wire it like the image below. The colors can be switched and rotated, as long as the pins you use are staggered.

Thanks for this clear explanation, it was just to check if I don't do something wrong. Just checking everything once more...
