Making a gameboy style gamepad for phone

Hi! I started a small project of making a gamepad that transforms my phone into a gameboy, I took an 8bitdo zero and 3d printed case that I made myself, do you have any advice when designing and making the beta version of it. Thanks!

interesting project, I was thinking of designing something like this myself... If interested, we could collaborate... I dont have much time, but I am sure I could find some spare time every week
My approach would be to design my own PCB and work with someone to put it to pretty designed enclosure.
