Games slow and choppy sound

Post by dongilles » Fri Jan 06, 2017 3:13 pm

Hey all,

I am starting on builing my GameBoy Zero but now I am waiting for all the parts to arrive.
As a start I am already installing Retropie and adding games to the library by using my Raspberry Pi 1B+ the only problem is that all games, except for Gameboy have a lot of slowdowns and the sound is really choppy.

Is there something I can do about this? Or is the Pi B+ not as powerfull as the Pi Zero and I should not be worried?

Currently I tried:
Retropie 4.0.2 and 4.1
I tried diffirent games on NES, SNES and GBA

I had this issue with my rp0 originally. It ended up being a power supply that wasn't quite good enough. Could be a possibility with yours.

Thanks for the reply but sadly it did not work.
The power I used is also use for my RPi 2 with Kodi.
I switched to the power I use for my RPi 1B+ and Kodi and still the sound is choppy and I experience slowdowns.

Anyone with more tips?

So I found the solution. I used the overclock settings of RetroPie and now everything runs perfect.

So I think my 5 year old Pi1 is not good anymore.

A pi zero is the same cpu as the original pi but with a default overclock (and depending on how early a pi it is, more memory) so it's no surprise that once it's overclocked to the same speed as a zero it performs as well. Your original pi is likely still just fine but obviously a zero is smaller for the same perf ;)
