You could use this..
https://oshpark.com/shared_projects/BP9tGKag
That will take a tiny space behind the screen, but then there are the 8 cables in the hinge to contend with.
Would 8 wires from a ribbon cable roll up and fit in the hinge?

Re: Custom button pcb gameboy SP
I think a version of that with an FPC style connector and a small ribbon would do perfectly... (that's how the SP and DS screens work)
did you make the footprint for the screen yourself or was it in a library?

Bourns 7914g

Re: Custom button pcb gameboy SP
Not bad, but probably still too thick. While desoldering some cart ports from DS boards I noticed that the start/select buttons on that are the same type as the SP. I'll try and see if they come off nicely and can be re-purposed.
Edit:
Or something like this:

Re: Custom button pcb gameboy SP
Moose, I'm using your ILI minimal board with a bare 2.8" tft for my GBA SP build. I used very small smd tactile buttons. Having trouble with space for a usb dac though.
Re: Custom button pcb gameboy SP
I would still prefer a GBA bard over a SP, the hand placement is so much better and intuitive. SP gives me cramps

Re: Custom button pcb gameboy SP
I've made a custom 'super' AIO board for the GBA SP. It's done and working, just need to finish finding a battery to fit. I'll post it soon when it's completed.
