Pi Switch!

Post by johnweland » Fri Mar 10, 2017 7:07 pm

So, I've been MIA for a few months. I got bored this evening and grabbed my pi gear. I have an official Pi display ad pi3 and a "Smart Pi Touch" housing... in hand, this thing feels about the same size as the switch though a little thicker. If it has some controllers on the side (making it just a hair wider) this thing could be a really good portable. There is plenty of room in the back for a battery and a couple small speakers.

Anyone good at planning and drafting?

I was thinking about this too. Switch has 7 inch screen, so the size is perfect. However I am not sure how that official screen perform. I had 3.5inch touch screen for Raspberry and it was horrible for running retro pie. I mean, I wasn't able to run retropie at all, only raspbian which was slow.

There are some 1024x600 hdmi 7inch screens available for a good price, they might work better. They run on 5-12V.

the official pi touchscreen is as good as using HDMI!! its the 3.5" screens that use the gpio pins you want to avoid
Get a small cheep LCD in your project https://www.sudomod.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=2312
Wrap it all round a battery https://www.sudomod.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=2292
Or use a custom PCB to make it really small https://www.sudomod.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=2512
or make it really really really really tiny!! https://www.sudomod.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=2919

Yeah, the official display is FAST. RetroPie doesn't have touch support but as a display is great!

Actually, grab two of these or something like them and you have the controls for said "Pi Switch".
