Sorry for the cross-post, but since you're talking about tins...

Barkley's mint tins are virtually identical to Altoids, and should be more readily available in Europe/Oz.

You may also be able to find similar tins at electronics stores, craft or hobby stores and party supply stores. They'll be blank, but it looks like you may be able to find solid white and solid black tins, as well as bare metal.

A quick Amazon search for 'hinged tin' also turned up this: https://goo.gl/wwz73O Looks like similar tins are used for tobacco as well, so searching 'tobacco hinged tin' turns up a ton of decorated options.

I bought everything they sold but it didn't say there will be shoulder buttons with it, I didn't know the shoulder buttons where DS Lite buttons
@Kyran and anyone else thinking of sourcing DS lite shoulder buttons...
DS Lite shoulder buttons will technically work (after all it's only a switch that clicks "on" when pressed and breaks when let go) BUT the DS Lite specific ones are absolutey TINY, and Surface mount. you'll have an absolute nightmare trying to make them work physically. you want regular 6mm x 6mm ones like this: http://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/tactile-switches/4791429/
you can usually get a big bag of them for a couple of bucks just searching ebay or amazon for "tact switch" or "tactile switch"

Here's what the DS Lite tactile switches for L/R look like. They have three pins on one side and none on the other.

Noob question,

will be possible to use the mini-hdmi port to connect the mintpi to a monitor? I don't see any hole for that port.

The back buttons (L/R shoulder) will be included in the DS buttons pack or I've to buy them separately?

regards,

Fenice

the way FBCP works you probably won't (because the screen will be set up for 320x240 and HDMI doesn't usually support that mode)

literally covered in the first post of this thread

[*]Tactile switches: 2 for start and select - these 2 will be pre-attached to Helder's board - (2.5mm tall including the actual button, 2mm tall without, 6.2mm x 6.2mm base), and 2 for L/R (5mm tall including the actual button, 3.2mm tall without, 6.2 x 6.2mm base)
2 are attached and you'll need 2 regulat tact switches (not the DS lite ones as mentioned only in the post above yours)

Just wondering if these ones would work:

To me they seem to fit the description but this is my first Pi build project so just wanted to double check as I'm not that familiar with some of these components.

6x6x5 is perfectly usable in fact I ordered some similar but with 2 legs instead of 4 with longer legs for relatively cheap, Wermy used what he had on hand which is what he suggested but the base being 6x6 versus 6.2x6.2 is negligible for this.

Cool thanks for the quick reply

edit: sorry for adding to the thread derailment, could you move my post to the "Additional part sourcing thread" it's probably more appropriate living there

I'm thinking about cut a plastic cap to a smaller size and glue them into my 6x6x5 shoulder buttons so I can have a wider comfortable area to click.

like these ones:

Ø6.2mmShow

let me know what you think about this idea :? :)

Added a small update, and set up a wiki page where I moved the parts list and added an FAQ: http://www.sudomod.com/wiki/index.php?title=MintyPi
