A 13 Year Old's MintyPi
Hello people/geniuses of sudomod! Just wanted to show off my mintyPi:
Note: I did this all by myself so the build is a bit of a mess. Going to transfer it into a new tin soon.
Suprised I pulled this off, especially since this is my first project of the kind. And because it was, I ran into some flaws that I'll share to help beginners:
Flaw: couldn't get continuity on some of the GPIO holes
Solution: Directly connect them with wires to test pads (thanks for adding that Helder)
Flaw: shorted my ground connection
Solution: DON'T FORGET TO ADD KAPTON/ELECTRICAL TAPE!!
Flaw: Went through two tins because of messed up holes
Solution: Don't mess up while drilling and use metal files like wermy did
Flaw (Sort of): Used RadioShack 30 Gauge wire.
Recommend: the Adafruit silicone covered wires would have probably made it easier
Flaw: Don't make the wires too long.
Also, DON'T USE TOO MUCH SOLDER, and don't make the mistake i made when starting by using thick solder, go for something thin like 0.032" 63/37.
Finally, don't be discouraged to do this project. With practice and the correct equipment, you can pull it off.

Re: A 13 Year Old's MintyPi
Thanks guys
Thinking of tackling a GBZ with later on, would that be a good step up or should I consider a different project?

Re: A 13 Year Old's MintyPi
Great job! I don't know many 13 year olds who would be able to tackle this (and end up with a working unit).

Re: A 13 Year Old's MintyPi
It wasn't always working but after countless fixes (glueing down microlipo, positioning power switch perfectly because I ran out of glue, adding electrical tape) it worked out
Wouldn't have been able to pull it off without the inspiration and help from this community!

Re: A 13 Year Old's MintyPi
Nice work.
If you want a good challenge, I'd recommend doing a gbz without and AIO board. Feels more rewarding when it's completed.

Re: A 13 Year Old's MintyPi
That's a challenge for people who have done plenty of modding (if you include making a 4 button panel from the original PCB...)
but if you decide to tackle that one, PLEASE make sure your donor DMG has a broken screen (horizontal lines for black splodges always visible, or just plain smashed. vertical lines can be fixed...)
Re: A 13 Year Old's MintyPi
Congratulations on your build!
I've a Kite SAIO and Helder AIO build but I want to switch to a more complex build as well. I have always been too lazy to dig into the forums where to start, but can you remember anyone from the show-off corner having such a build? (besides VeteranGamer )
You are mentioning Wermy's original build right?abrugsch wrote: โMon Aug 14, 2017 4:02 amThat's a challenge for people who have done plenty of modding (if you include making a 4 button panel from the original PCB...)
