First attempt

Post by Rider » Tue Aug 29, 2017 5:30 pm

Ok so this is my first attempt at a project this small, I’ve made arcades no problem but a hand held was always something I wanted to make. This project was so much fun, thanks to Wermy and Helder for making it quite painless.

I found it difficult to get an altoids tin locally but on my family trip to the coast I picked up various flavours of Barkleys mints. The tin size is the same so it fits perfectly.

I changed up the splash startup and my daughter named it the Multi Pi, since it’s in a liquorice tin, mintypi doesn’t seem to quite suit it anymore.

I’ll probably make a game boy zero at some point, feeling like I could manage that now after this went so well.

Nice job, looks great! And good to know about the Barkleys - I've seen that question pop up before. And it *does* say "mints" on the tin... Just saying. ;)

Also, a bit of rubbing alcohol on a cotton swab will take the leftover marker right off from around your holes.

Edit: added an FAQ about Barkleys mints since I've seen that question a few times: http://www.sudomod.com/wiki/index.php?title=MintyPi#FAQ

This is great!

Nice to see an alternative tin build completed! I like it.

May get myself a Barkelys :D

If you've not got any rubbing alcohol just take some of your missus' nail varnish remover like i do.

:)

That looks so good! That's better than some I've seen here and the black tin really suits the console. Has the tin got a 3D lift on the brand name or is it flat?

Thanks, I really enjoyed putting together. Yeah the tin is embossed like the altoids tins. Mush easier to pick up in my neck of the woods too. UK BTW :)

Nice build. I like that you used a different brand then Altoids. I am still waiting on the next batch of PCBs and screens for the two builds I'm doing.
My parents told me I can be anything when I grew up. I chose Ninja!

Did you used the same measurements as for the Altoids tin?
