Oh wow, this is kind of a nerve-wracking endeavor, haha. I have all the parts currently (except for the sound card) so I started with the tin.

[12/14/17] - I was waiting for Helder's practice boards to practice on before moving on. I finally felt confident enough to solder the button PCB to the raspberry pi. I also modified the sound card. It was a challenge getting the headphone jack off, but I managed to do so. I scratched the board a bit but I think it'll be okay. I also glued the bottom down with the L and R buttons.

Updated main post, don't know if it shows up. Worried about doing the battery though. Anyone recommend a specific temp to solder the battery or have tips? I don't know anyone that can do it for me so I have to try myself.

You don't have much to worry about. Don't let the red and black wires touch. Twist and pre tin each wire. And tin the pads. Easy peasy.
