KB 4 button pcb wiring?

Post by 401Gaming » Thu Jun 02, 2016 1:50 pm

Ok so I got myself one of the Kitsch Bent 4 button common ground button pcbs to make building my system a little easier. My issue is that the wire I have doesn't fit into the solder holes along the top. What size wire should I be using for this?

Get an old IDE HDD ribbon cable and use that, also 26AWG should work fine for this.

Ok thanks yea a ribbon cable would definitely make things easier? Where can I find one of those? Or should I just get one off of Amazon

If you don't have an old ribbon cable laying around then yeah you can get a roll on amazon (my local radio shack carries rolls of it too).

I've been using ethernet cables. There are 8 wires in there, usually very well color coded, and quite small

The wires in my old ethernet cable are a tad bit big. It's a really tight fit for the PCB.

They also tend to be solid-core, which I don't like much. But yes they can be a nice source of "free" wire if you have some laying around. :D

Oh really? I find that surprising. I've never encountered a solid core, they've always been braided for me, and I've been using ethernet cord for many many projects. I guess pay attention to what you have before you cut it up. :)

Interesting. Come to think of it I haven't cut open *that* many of them, mostly due to being turned off by the solid core I found. :D

I had the same issue. I used an "old" VGA cable ;)

I first did some testing with a multimeter before to epoxy.
