Re: My first HDMI build
ok, because on the pics, there is some GPIO ports . i'm looking for replaceing the HDMI port, then solder a ribbon to the main screen board . I know this kind of solder job is a real challange but i want to do it
Re: My first HDMI build
So you just plug in the pi by hdmi and that's it? or is there more tinkering involved?
How did you get the cable? I was thinking of doing this myself, but the bulky hdmi cable was a big problem. Can you provide a link to where you got it?

Re: My first HDMI build
hi,
i've got my build complete (well about 99%)
i'm just trying to sort out a few minor issues before i post the finished build.....
what value resistors did you use between the speaker and headphone socket?.....
also, how is your build holding up for heat....
i knew there was gonna be some heat, as both the screen and the pi at times will generate a reasonable amount....
i've decided to add a couple of heatsinks (not sure if they will actually help)
.

Re: My first HDMI build
I can confirm that those « heatsinks » help a bit. I used a good thermal conductive pad and without a fan, i’m getting from 3 to 5 degrees less on the SoC

Re: My first HDMI build
For this build everything is directly connected to the battery except for the hdmi screen and one usb port which get power from a small 5v booster which draws little power and almost no heat. The hdmi screen i used gets just a little warm after testing it for more than one hour prior to glueing it inside the case so I didn't bother with a heatsink. The pi zero obviously gets warm hot but still within its range but no heatsink.VeteranGamer wrote: ↑Tue Oct 17, 2017 8:39 amhi,

For the resistors i think it was 68ohm for the speaker and a higher one for headphone jack around 1k. I can't remember exactly.
I played mine straight for almost 3 hours and didn't feel anything noticeable from the case. I will test it again and check the actual temperature from the console.

Re: My first HDMI build
I have to trim the board especially near the ribbon area where the gpio connector is in order to fit the stripped hdmi cable from the the top. The firmware side of the board gets its power connection from this connector that i just trimmed/removed so i need to route the 5v power somewhere else.
The cable i used is just a common short mini to hdmi cable. Around 9 inches in length. It's very difficult to strip it though. I bought it on ebay. Let me check my purchase history.

Re: My first HDMI build
Question:
Can you tap into the HDMI wires and "pluck out" the audio to direct them into an amp/speaker for sound, or is audio coming from the screen // coming from PWM pins?
I'm not that familiar with HDMI stuff yet.

Re: My first HDMI build
I'm pretty sure that the hdmi cable covers the audio stuff for you in this kind of build. If you look at the screen, you can see there is a headphone jack, which I'm pretty sure can be removed and wired up somewhere else. That's what makes HDMI cool, it handles both audio and video.
