GBZ #7, with minty pi battery monitor

Post by rodocop » Thu Nov 09, 2017 7:35 am

So this is my 7th build. Using a simple PCB, wired via GPIO, banggood powerboost with micro usb in the headphone area, battery bay left intact (waiting for a larger battery in the mail, currently using a small 1500mah). Erik_gee's should button bracket with tactile buttons, and a gearbest screen. I've used a minty pi battery monitor in this build and I've actually just used the minty pi v4 image on this. Everything works great, I just had to re map my gpio pins since I used different ones that the stock minty pi image. I get an on screen battery monitor, and all the function combos work, with the exception of the brightness, since I am using a composite screen. I have placed my function button in the power port hole, and have SD access out the contrast port.

I've skipped all the audio in this build as well, because the customer wants this one is deaf. On small part not to have to worry about I guess! Free's up a decent amount of space with all the wiring gone.

I am still waiting for a screen cover from HandHeldLegend, my stickers from YaYa, and a larger battery pack, but otherwise it's all done! It turns out the gameboy halves must have been from different units, since the front is nice and clean, but the back it quite yellow!

Very nice, great work, I did not know you can use the minty pi battery monitor in a GBZ, I'm definitely going to try it in my next build, what gpio pins did you have to remap, any help would be appreciated, thanks.

I used prs gpio buttons guide. So I just replaced the stock minty pi gpio buttons with the ones I used. If I knew I was going to use the minty pi battery monitor from the start I would have just used the same gpio pins the minty pi uses.

Those are the stock minty pi GPIO's if you need. (The ones I used are in the brackets). But yeah, if you wire like that you won't have to edit anything.

LEFT 14 (23)# Joypad left
RIGHT 22 (0)# Joypad right
UP 4 (22)# Joypad up
DOWN 5 (1)# Joypad down
LEFTCTRL 21 (16)# 'A' button
LEFTALT 16 (6)# 'B' button
Z 26 (26)# 'X' button
X 20 (19)# 'Y' button
SPACE 15 (5) # 'Select' button
ENTER 19 (12)# 'Start' button
A 12 (21)# Left shoulder button
S 6 (20)# Right shoulder button
#ESC 17 # Exit ROM; PiTFT Button 1
GPIO pin numbers not physical numbers
