GPD WIN

Post by shozumi@gmail.com » Wed Nov 23, 2016 10:46 am

So now that my GBZ is done, I've been thinking about my next project which is a Pi 3 inside a 3DS XL case. Dual boot Desktop OS like Raspbian or Ubuntu Mate for a laptop experience, Retropie for retro gaming, Kodi for media, built in keyboard (Blackberry phone keyboard where the bottom screen would go), of course a game pad with analog joystick, and a bigger screen (driver board has composit and VGA so was thinking of using it as an external monitor for work when I'm in the labs).

Got almost everything figured out in my head like making and installing spacers on the base to accommodate for all the hardware, Pigrrl Zero gamepad seems to be perfect fit for 3DS XL buttons, blackberry keyboard with the use of teensy should work, linux has drivers for Wacom pen tablets so hopefully be able to use this for on-the-go drawing as well.

But then the other day I saw the GPD WIN. It's a full Windows 10 based system that looks like a 3DS XL with gamepad and keyboard. Since it's Windows, it can run retro emulators as well as Steam games. Looks like it was an Indiegogo project and people are now actually getting them.

What do you guys think for either my 3DS XL project or the GPD WIN?

A 3DS XL project would certainly be cool to see. But for what it's worth, I have a GPD Win and it is awesome. Exactly what I wanted in such a device, and much more versatile than an arm-based board. :)
