non-fiction and crime huh?

might i suggest this?

it's basically "the wire" in book form (in fact, it is written by the same people), very well-written, one of the best non-fiction books i know yet more thrilling than many crime novels out there. also it's a brick (around 550 pages) so it will last you a couple nights.

For cloak and dagger wizard action, try the Dresden Files. For geek culture references to the number 42, try the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. For a book that is better than the movie everyone has seen, try the Princess Bride. Honorable mentions: Miss Peregrines Home for Peculiar Children, Enders Game, and Homestuck. That last one is a trap - don't fall in.

I'm going to ignore your genre preferences and plug the only two books I was interested in enough to read on my own time.

I may actually read them again now that I can remember the details of the stories.
