Tools Needed for Gameboy Zero

Post by Hockeyguy1703 » Thu Oct 27, 2016 1:05 pm

Hello everyone,

I can't express how exciting this site/Gameboy Zero project is. Definitely excited to get this project started and I hope with patience and time I'll pull it off.

That said, I am wondering about the prerequisites someone should have before beginning this project. I have built my own PC before but that was all Plug and Play style building. After looking through some of the tutorials, there seems to be some more advanced skills required. What kinds of skills should be known before beginning? Are they something that can be learned as you go?

Also, aside from screwdrivers and knifes, I don't have many tools. Are there any specific tools I should get before starting? Does anyone have any recommendations?

Finally, out of convenience, I am looking to purchase all the parts I need in once place as much as possible, does anyone have a saved shopping list at Amazon or the like that can be shared?

Thank you all for your advice and help! I'm keep my fingers crossed I can pull this off!

Revised:

Tri-wing screwdriver (the screws in the GB case aren’t normal phillips-head screws)
Tool to open game cardridges
Soldering iron (and solder)
Electrical tape
Dremel Rotary Tool
X-acto knives
Hot glue gun
Hot air gun for heat shrink tubing
Double sided permanent tape
Other basics like screwdrivers and drill plus the button hole drill bit

**DISCLAIMER**

I have not yet successfully constructed a GameBoy Zero.

I have, however posted part/tool/skill requirements to other forums.

I only did so after exhaustive readings of text instructions, and video reproductions.

on top of the listed tools make sure you have a third hand tool.

it is a life saver when trying to solder stuff to the pi and powerboost
