Anyone seen this screen before? Does it need to be converted to 5V?

Just got this board the other day and 5V out of the box was a no-go. So, I removed the chip in the corner and changed the 5V entry to the second pin from the lower right of the desoldered chip. Not the easiest to explain so I made an image in Photoshop. Hope it helps, I can confirm this works. This screen is one of the nicer looking screens I have seen. ENJOY!

Can you do this modification without de-soldering the voltage regulator as in other mods?

The regulator comes off rather easy did mine today and the screen works great!

Hi everyone !

I want to make my own Game Boy Zero ( like you i think ) but i'm a little noob in electronic...

But now i don't know how to transform the 12V DC into 5V.

The PCB :

The 2 voltage regulators are : XL1509 -5.0E1 53094(U2 - top right) / 25X20CL 1516(U6 - bottom left)

Someone can help me ?

So I ordered one of these:

Turned up a couple of days back. Nice quality and fits well into the case with a little trimming of the PCB. I also removed the touch screen.

Much better than the BW screen, default text is readable and no fuzzy/blurriness. Aspect ratio is obviously a little less ideal but I'll compensate with a thicker bezel at the bottom of the LCD cut out.

You ask specifically about "de-soldering" the regulator, so I can let you know exactly what I did. I used these to cut each pin flush to the chip:

The work absolutely amazing and can't recommend these enough. It's made short work of a lot of things that used to require breaking out the soldering gun.

I give this suggestion to you as it is extremely easy to do AND because I don't know if the mod will work by leaving the regulator in place as I haven't done it personally. I can only give you my own experience.

Hey guys, just ordered myself a BW screen and didn't notice this particular board on the wiki. (Sorry if it's been posted before!)

Ordered this screen from:

Here's the board, it's slightly different and I've had success running it straight off 5V, though there's a small amount of distortion so may need to be modified still for better picture quality. I'll see what I can do with it.

This screen isn't that bad especially for the cost, I've got the same and if you do the 5v mod and use a better gauge wire than is already used it's completely useable...

The menues will look a little fuzzy, I'd suggest to go for the custom theme (saves changing fonts sizes) and the gameplay is fine considering the systems your emulating

This screen has the benefit of the smaller board and more importantly the thinner connection cable from the board to the screen (allowing slightly better mounting)

These other screens look good in theory but will compromise the build... Not allowing much room once installed and more importantly the issue of the placement of the screws (which might result in a bulging cases and it not closing properly)...
Plus most ppl are using PI0 and it really can't run anything better than 16bit systems...

But that might thoughts on it... Others may disagree

I'm having an issue with this screen: http://www.sudomod.com/forum/viewtopic. ... 035#p25035 - some flickering appears when inside a console submenu. Have you experienced any issue inside emulationstation?

Also, what's you config.txt look like? Im guessing this might be a memory issue in emulationstation, causing the screen to switch off when in some of the submenus.
