GBZ #4

Post by Lphillimore » Tue Apr 18, 2017 9:26 am

I feel like im spamming but nonetheless happy with this one.

Thanks to @tehsoul - bought this complete kit from him. Short of a screen protector, SD card etc.

This was my second build using an AIO. @helders 2.2

I forgot just how easy it makes things.

First GBZ i did i had all sorts of trouble from wire being too thick, case closing....sound issues....nervous and therefore a slow build....etc

I literally threw this together in 2 days tops.

Bonus, no sound issues with this board!

Looks good! Where do you get those little raspberry stickers? I also have those same buttons you used for L and R, how were they for fitting in the case, and are they much better than the little tiny buttons?

I'm really tempted to build another GBZ, I have all the part minus the screen (only downside is my my button board will either be a chopped up DMG board, or a i'll buy a basic button board. So we'll see what happens.

I'd look forward to another one of your builds. I've found the basic button boards on ebay for as low as $8 shipped..."

And to OP, looks great! I especially like the transparent case and cartridge...that double skeletal look. Curious to see the internals up close, but they look quite clean. Nice work!

Thanks! I got them from eBay first time around then another set from: https://swag.raspberrypi.org/products/stickers

You can also get them from Pimoroni as @VeteranGamer has mentioned: https://shop.pimoroni.com/products/stickers

As you'll see by these links though, they are often out of stock hence why I went to eBay first time around. You should be able to find some if you do some digging, or I think I even signed up to be notified of new stock on one website.

As for the buttons, they are essentially the same style button and the holes can be drilled with the same step-up drill bit used for the front buttons.

Mounting them is a little more tricky as they need gluing down obviously but just be careful not to glue the button cap down as the inside lip of the button it sits inside the case. I found plenty of mount points for the glue however.

Best screens I've used and continue to use as from Gearbest:

http://www.gearbest.com/development-boa ... 29447.html

Although it doesn't say it, these will run off of 5v out of the box. Looks like they have a flash sale on, too!

Id defo recommend a simple button PCB too, few dollars on eBay

Thanks! I actually have to open it up to put the battery in....you will not it's not there :D - I'll likely also swap the Pi out for a Zero W once my latest order arrives.

Ill take some photos of the inside and add them to the post.

I only went with 1x USB port on this one and the cart reader added more wiring but its relatively clean. Volume wheel wires nicely tucked away etc. 8-)

Yeah, I used that same screen in my last build. Might be worth buying another.

@Brandomnel Micro SD charge port? I used hot glue actually as it dries nice and clear. Just wiped away the excess then once fully dry cleared away anything left over.
