Thanks, can see the pictures now :)
Great build! How did you connect this screen to pi zero? I see only one red wire which is not enough for power and video signal :)
The red wire connects the power. The screen grounds itself through the HDMI cable I have.

Its a HDMI to HDMI mini camera cable of some sort. Not sure if I will be using it in the end though. Looks to be tough to package in there.

That looks great!

What is the visible resolution now? (overscan settings)
Because others have the screen edge on the richt further to the right so they had to cut into the case more, so the original (Bw screen type) screen protectors would not fit anymore.
If i look at your photo's, it seems that screenprotector will fit perfectly?!

And can you get the audio of the stereo jack of the screen now? So no audio card (usb) needed?
Still need an amp?

Thanks :P
If I follow the Retropie explanation and the post from McGyver, I believe the screen was forced to 480x320 resolution. Yes, I played and used the overscan settings to get it just where I wanted it. I will be able to use the correct screen protector (when it arrives) without having to cut too far to the right. This was one of my main goals on the project.

For the sound, I have not tested it just yet. My plan is to use the audio jack on the board and wire it to a volume wheel, then to a speaker (not doing headphones on this one). I will do some more work tonight and report back.

Thank you! The screen is being held in by a heavily modified bracket from wermy. I have been fitting the back cover as I progress and I had to shorten the screw brackets on the DMG case. I cut the top of the post off and shaved them down, then used gorilla glue to put them back together so they are the correct height. I'll snag some more photos tonight.

Proposed final layout...

Powerboost 1000c at the top, USB in the "EXT connector" spot, Vol wheel in org spot, Helder's (ballin') power strip in the corner, Micro USB for charging in the original headphone jack, battery in the OG spot, and Pi hovering above the cart. I was also able to sneak the cartridge SD card reader.

Going to use the 3.5mm jack out of the screen and run that to the Vol wheel, then to the speaker... hoping it works in that fashion.

If you have a keen eye, you'll see a tact switch up in the original 6v spot. This will be hooked up to the GPIO pins as a safe shutdown switch...
Hit the tact... shutdown script runs, turn off power switch.

Thoughts? input?

Yeah yeah... I'll use black Legos... Haha.

That looks awsome! Even got room for the cartridge reader i see!!

about the resolution: i know it is forced to the same resolution the BW screens have, but due to the overscan to get the picture within the screen protector, won't you lose some pixels??

looks good so far.... great work

how are you intending to keep things in place.....

i would recommend vhb tape, alot cleaner holds justs as well as other methods, and easily removed if need be

try to avoid pumping the build with hot glue now (just a recommendation)

Thank you Sir!

Yes, I am not a fan of a giant hot glue mess. I'll use it where I have to, but will try other methods where possible. I have a large bag of black plastic standoffs that I hope to incorporate. I glued those tact buttons in with a giant glob, but was wanting a different solution. Just haven't seen any different methods for those.

Thank you for the tip on the tape! I will get some for sure.

Thank you!

I was wondering the same thing about the overscan. I was also cautious that I didn't want to lose any of the pixels, yet move the picture into the exact spot I needed. From my tests on the screen it really doesn't appear that I've lost any pixels. Once I get everything (semi)permanently mounted, I will have to test more games to see if any was lost. My SD card will be easily accessible if I need to make further changes.
