GBZ 5 - Complete

Post by Lphillimore » Tue May 30, 2017 6:33 pm

Waiting on the damn Kapton tape for my Kite build.

So using leftovers to make another GBZ.

Standard build:

Pi Zero W
3000mah battery
Button PCB
Banggood PSU (no Powerboosts left!)
USB sound
USB hub, powerboard etc...

Still to wire in sound, volume pot, fill charge port, fit the proper battery etc...

This battery will fit perfectly in the GBZ battery compartment:

yours looks to be a little big.

Thanks, @helder - Sorry, should have mentioned in my post - this is just to test the build as I'm using a Banggood PSU which requires the battery be connected to fire it up.

This isn't the finished product :)

Ive got one of these coming which I've used on past builds and is almost a perfect fit. Im looking to use pogo pins this time.

Battery in use here is an old spare that only fits with more case modding which im not looking to do.

:D

if you want a slightly neater connector than pogo pins, go for one of these: http://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/products/4617286
(obvs use your fav distributor etc)

Now I'm working on my Kite build, ive now finished this one so here are a couple more photos. Might top up the Sugru fill around the charge port....

Have also ordered some of those pins as suggested by abrugsch for a future build 8-)

Also drilled a small hole and filled with glue to allow good visibility of the charging LED.

Worked out pretty nicely.

Blue when on, not charging.

Pink when on and charging.

Red when off and charging.

Hey, nice build! How'd you get that charging indicator to work? Looking to do something similar.
I've just finished my milk.

Thanks :)

The LED of the power module (in this case Banggood) sits just below the top of the rear side of the case. In low light and because this case is white it's often visible through the case itself. Only just though....

So I simply drilled a hole in the top part of the case directly above the power module, clear of the screen and clear of the power module below.

In then just filled with a small bit of hot glue.

Now the LED light from inside lights the barrel up nicely!
