Greetings veteran gamer,
I was wondering if there is a 5 inch 960 x 544 display that could use these connectors? I'm not sure on how to design my own connectors but I like the ones posted. It uses minimal gpio pins and that's what I'm looking for. On that note would the gpio pin usage increase if the screen had touch involved(silly question that I already know the answer to)?

this is all dependent on the screen....
these connectors work with screens that can be enabled via SPI.....
i'm not sure of which 5" LCD that can do this (if any)
I would look for a screen that suits your project, and then have a look at which ways you can connect that screen
(a decent seller should be able to provide a datasheet)
you may be looking at a DPI rather than a SPI (DPI will require a lot more GPIO connections)

I see 8 connections on the board but Moosepr's guide shows there are 9. Specifically, how is the connection for BL to pin12 accounted for?

Wow. Are you Broomhill? That EXACT same question was asked (and answered) on page 2, years ago.
