Post by sixteenbit » Thu Aug 24, 2017 8:58 pm

My board doesn't seem to look like any in the wiki. Any help is appreciated.

Im completely new at this so you should´nt take my word on this at all, but yours looks a bit like the one in this video (not exactly the same).

At least you might get a bit further in solving your problem.

The ic he uses has 8 pines. The new one just 6, but I don't have a 12 v power supply to test it.

Hey there! So if you want to figure out which I it is, what you should do is Google the labels on the top of them. Find datasheets and it will specify what kind of ic it is. You are looking for some kind of voltage regulator related name. Once you have the right chip, it's as simple as looking at the datasheet and locating the corrects pins.

If you don't have much luck, you can just list the ic names here and I'll have a go at it 👌

So, i have the same Screen as on the picture above. I think the chip om the right lower corner over the condensator must be the voltage regulator (picture from first post). I could read JWBV 795D.

After some tries , this display works like all other Displays now with the following Modification:

Image

- Solder out the IC in the yellow square
- Connect the Pin with 5V from the input-cable
- For this, you can also use the holes above the solpads for each input pin

So just to clarify, Tobiwall, are you saying to completely remove the IC and attach 5V to where pin 6 was?

Awesome sauce!

Make sure to add it to the screen wiki!

I don't know, if it works, when you connect Pin 6 with 5V without soldering out the IC.

I was glad when I had removed the regulator without damaging the board :)

Awesome, thanks guys. For some reason I wasn't subscribed to my own post so i didn't get notifications. I'll try this out in just a little bit.

Update:
Just tried this and honestly I think my screen is fried. Not from trying this method but I may have messed it up previously trying to mod it.

Not getting anything on screen. Tested with another screen so it's not pi or power cord.
