Re: Build Log (of a total and complete newb with 0 electronics expierence)

yeah. Nothing. I mean stupidity check: if there is no HDMI connection, will the Pie automatically switch to the TV output? Or do I need to configure it? At this point, I'm thinking I just have shitty solder or something. It's a 60/40 rosin-core solder at .062"/1.5mm in diameter is that makes any di...

Re: Build Log (of a total and complete newb with 0 electronics expierence)

Well, this is pretty much my last shot with this particular screen. I've re-soldered the connections about 3 times... in each location. I've double, triple, quad, and quintuple checked the connections. They are as good as I can make them. https://i.imgur.com/AeDpWD1.jpg https://i.imgur.com/5inA6mu.j...

Re: Build Log (of a total and complete newb with 0 electronics expierence)

is there a chart or anything that identifies all the pads and pins on the Pie Zero? I've looked around and I've found tons that show a couple of the pads, or the GPIO pin outs... but I haven't been able to find one that IDs all of the pads and pins outs.

Re: Build Log (of a total and complete newb with 0 electronics expierence)

hm. it looks like the correct spots. maybe a bad solder connection? what kind of power supply are you using? is there enough current? (probably 1A or more would be enough). do you have the hdmi plugged in (the composite gets disabled if it is). shortening the wires, or twisting them, could help str...

Re: Build Log (of a total and complete newb with 0 electronics expierence)

So I got the new screen in today. To make sure I was good to go, I tested it with a DVD player: https://i.imgur.com/LQzz2kO.jpg Yup, looks good. So I went to work making the modifications: https://i.imgur.com/OOt6AyX.jpg made the connections to the Pie Zero: https://i.imgur.com/KFZRLDi.jpg and.... I...

Re: Build Log (of a total and complete newb with 0 electronics expierence)

i had one of these screens laying around here, so i just gave it a try on this new build. if you end up with another one, this is what worked for me - clipped the chip off with a flush cutter, desoldered the white wire, and then moved the red up to where the second leg was attached... worked right ...

Re: Build Log (of a total and complete newb with 0 electronics expierence)

you don't need to scratch anything.... you might end up making things even more worst.... I can't help but chuckle in reading that. It's like I've already screwed it up as bad as I could without it being totally and completely obvious... but there's a chance I can screw it up even more. that point ...

Re: Build Log (of a total and complete newb with 0 electronics expierence)

so I guess this attempt is a wash. I've ordered a new screen. Any chance I can bridge the connection on the board with what's left? Or did the etching get torn out too like I'm guessing from the look of it? maybe.. if you can find where that pin was, and scrape it to expose some of the copper trace...

Re: Build Log (of a total and complete newb with 0 electronics expierence)

So tried removing the yellow wire. No change. Went to remove the IC where I bridged the 5v line to... and I was greeted by a very interesting surprise: https://i.imgur.com/ZX6CWVd.jpg the chip, and the bridge I put on, is gone. So... wtf and wtf (what and when)? It looks like I tore the chip off at ...

Build Log (of a total and complete newb with 0 electronics expierence)

Let's watch a monkey try to build a GMZ So I am a model builder with only slightly more than 0 knowledge when it comes to electronics. I know enough to wire an LED to a battery and, more often than not, have it work for more than 5 seconds. But I was checking out various videos when I ran across We...
