Parts are starting to arrive, so I thought I'd get started on the build. I think I'm gonna start with the Game Boys. I wanted to try and repair one and use the other for the build. I don't intend to cover the repair here, but I'm cleaning and whitening both, so that's the only reason it's included. ...

100% agree, I never have a problem tips either using lead solder. Just get a new tip and save yourself a ball of hardship.

USB 3.0 is backwards compatible with the previous versions, so you should be OK. I don't have much experience with USB 3.0, so I'll give you my best guess. Older versions of USB only used the black, green, white and red wires. So I'd see if the hub functions with only those wires connected. The firs...

OK, I'm guessing you'd like to use the original av cable for the NES, if that's the case, I don't think I can help you. Could you post a clear image of just the board you're wiring the pi into, front and back please.

You might be just better off bypassing it altogether and just wiring straight to a RCA port, or of course you just wire up HMDI!
