Another thought, why not use the analogue input of an arduino (already in use in a lot of builds) to monitor battery voltage?
I know that analogRead is a slow activity, but I doubt it would be slow enough to degrade play.

Re: Battery level monitoring with an ATTiny85
Why not have the attiny send keystrokes to the pi when certain voltage levels are detected, then run a background service to listen for and react to the voltage levels?
I was thinking about doing this over the last few days....
Ah holdon, I see you are using the hardware serial for the purpose/

Re: Potential fix for USB pad problems
FYI I dont think that your fix was what I needed... I finally got mine working, but the problem was at the Arduino Micro side. I bought a cheepo chinese clone, never really had much of a problem with them before. On the Arduino there are pads marked J1. They should be bridged if the micro is a 5v 16...

I am not sure what you are looking to do, but I might be able to offer a suggestion... I have ordered these.... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/322017456081?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT I aim to create a digital volume control rather than relying on an analog pot. You could u...

Re: Potential fix for USB pad problems
I am having the same problem. Cant wait to test this..
One thing, I did modify my firmware to access the pi in OTG mode from my PC. I thought I had reverted the modifications back, but I wonder if a driver has changed somewhere?
You did not happen to do the same in the past did you?

Re: A new screen, any tips on 5v conversion?
Got a multimeter? I am going to guess (picture not clear that the three legged componnent marked U2 is a 3.3v voltage regulator. If you measure the voltage on the three pins smaller pins (with the screen powered), there is a good chance that one will measure 5v. There are also unpopulated pins above...
