why is the black cable going to one of the AV points not to gnd? The square shaped pad is the pi's one av port, the round pad next to is is ground . Ive tried it out HoolyHoo, doesnt seem to do anything when pin 5 is grounded. When i tried running the script it gives some errors and says it needs to be run in root. I ran it in root buy when i try to execute it nothing happens, seems to just lock up the pi and i have to reset. Found the problem,...

In future it's much faster to just google search the forums. This kind of thing has been posted about extensively in the past.
Your volume pot will be fine, as long as you aren't worried about stereo sound to your headphones.
