Have you tried headphone or audio (the ones with tulip connectors) wire, this wire has a core with the ground wire as surrounding shield.
You can even buy this on ebay...
Bought some aftermarket snes buttons, but switched them out with original snes controller buttons (just put the aftermarkets in the controller) and the snes ones fit (and look) so much better.
Drilled a 11mm hole and they fit like a glove.
