You can test that you have a proper image on the sd card and that the pi boots up with a hdmi cord hooked up to a tv. as rodocop said, the square hole is the tv out. Use either the yellow or white wire only to connect to the tv out.

Use a desoldering braid or sucker to remove all that solder and gunk from where you removed the regulator. Clean it up as much as you can, make sure theres no shorts from solder, and do the 5v conversion. Start from there. Good luck.

I ran into an issue on my first gbz build with the pi getting so hot that it would soften up the hot glue that i used to mount it, enough that i couldnt plug in a mini hdmi cord. Nice build. Really like your implementation of the shoulder buttons and the display glass.
