Re: [WIP] Project RetroBoy; a custom CAD drawn Gameboy case

Have you thought about making the whole case a little bit slimmer? The classic Game Boy is very bulky. I already considered 3D-printing a slimmer version of the case backside to use with the original frontside. The problem is at this point I don't even know by how much I could make it slimmer if at...

Re: Collecting information on alternative displays - please contribute

A simple request for those with a BW screen; what is the actual viewable area? AKA what is the actual surface in mm * mm with activated pixels, not the part which stays black. Trying to find out what the optimum silkscreen border width is. Basically there's only 2 type of screens we use so far (with...

Re: [WIP] Project RetroBoy; a custom CAD drawn Gameboy case

How about adding a small curve to the bottom right hand corner of the screen? I know that the rounded corner might overlap part of the screen. But perhaps you can make the rounded corner a lot smaller than the original? Since I'm not doing a 1:1 I played around with the screen surround size a bit.....

Re: [WIP] Project RetroBoy; a custom CAD drawn Gameboy case

I believe Kites Super AIO uses the contrast cut out as an SD-slot. It does, however it's not a big deal if left out. You don't change the card that often and there's still the option of the cartridge slot. If there's not a lot of comments on this it's certain to be left out. In my opinion this is t...

Re: [WIP] Project RetroBoy; a custom CAD drawn Gameboy case

Huge weekend update The corner is how we wanted it now! I'll explain per picture some of the visible changes, and it's a huge list. http://i.imgur.com/edpZNsu.png 1. The corner is done right this time around, a downright pain to get right if you just started on 3D 2. The chosen speaker grill has be...

Snes style 12mm tactile buttons

Found these while researching. These are 12mm so your case needs a bit of extra modding but they offer the same 4 colours as the snes controller. Might be useful to someone. https://www.selloscope.com/bez/Gikfun-12x12x73-mm-Tact-Tactile-Push-Button-Momentary/B01E38OS7K http://ecx.images-amazon.com/i...

Re: [WIP] Project RetroBoy; a custom CAD drawn Gameboy case

Small'ish update. Got some more hardware in this week, an overview of what I've got so far: http://i.imgur.com/qUlUCpm.jpg And since you guys like cost breakedowns here it goes; - PD035VX2 640x480px screen which I sourced through some Chinese contact €51,= - DS Lite cartridge reader, modded it like ...

Re: [WIP] Project RetroBoy; a custom CAD drawn Gameboy case

OP, have you considered making the CAD for Kite's AIO board with the analog stick and vertical buttons, similar to how you made this? Already fits, the spot for the analog stick can be drilled by people themselves if they want it; most people don't want it. If I made a pre-made hole people wouldn't...

Re: [WIP] Project RetroBoy; a custom CAD drawn Gameboy case

If the rounded corner + slant is a comfort thing, why not have it on both sides? Just can't do it even if I wanted to... the Helder PCB 2.0 has the power board there and Kite uses that part too. Originally I had considered placing a 2nd speaker there for stereo sound which is just not an option any...

Re: [WIP] Project RetroBoy; a custom CAD drawn Gameboy case

I'm not so vain I need my initials on a case :P
At least not in a visible way, there's a small mark + initials I used to use on smaller projects years ago but mainly in non visible spots.
