well, from my point of view, the difference is huge, some may say no it's not. You have a better refresh rate and the image is sharper and more accurate !

The BW screens are composite screens. Composite means : highly subject to interferences, inaccurate colors. Also those screens suffers of flicker as you stated and slow refresh rates. A solder may have broke while closing the build, check all the connections.
