Damn, that looks nice. I already started a "High end" build using a sega gamegear and a pi3, but this is somewhat demotivating

Rom compatibility seems pretty terrible on that. Also seen horror stories on poor build quality, where the JXD S5100B would be a better option.

Still, i like this idea better.

I guess the problem then is, how do you hook up that HDMI to the Pi?

That looks like the same exact display we're using, except with a much smaller control board.
