Connecting a DPI screen to GPIO

Post by Sushi » Sat Dec 23, 2017 4:01 pm

I'm thinking of using this screen in an upcoming project. As far as I know, this is all I have to do to connect it to a properly configured pi:
1. Wire RGB channels to respective GPIO pins
2. Wire HSYNC and VSYNC pins to respective GPIO pins
3. Wire DE to respective GPIO pin
4. Provide 3.3v & 19.2v to display and backlight (in that order)

That seems simple enough... suspiciously. Is that really all I need to do? According to the DPI page on the raspberry pi site, there's a PCLK pin. I don't know what to do with that one. I've seen Kite's super AIO which uses a DPI screen, so I assume this is possible.

I'd super-appreciate any advice.

As far as wiring that's almost about it, the hardest part is getting the software side done so it works properly with the screen which is different for each lcd. I'm sure someone will give a more detailed explanation on the topic, I'm currently on my phone so can't provide links to a guide.

Get a small cheep LCD in your project https://www.sudomod.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=2312
Wrap it all round a battery https://www.sudomod.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=2292
Or use a custom PCB to make it really small https://www.sudomod.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=2512
or make it really really really really tiny!! https://www.sudomod.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=2919

The screen looks similar with the common dpi screen https://www.ebay.com/p/3-5-Inch-QVGA-24 ... 1245943815 so i think its possible.

The clockpin on the screen you're using is on pin38 according to its datasheet. Connect that on GPIO0 of the pi.
