Driving an SPI display with DPI?

Post by Sushi » Sun Jun 17, 2018 3:48 pm

I'm fascinated with displays like this because they're incredibly cheap. I've noticed that a lot of them with high pin counts support 16 bit 8080 parallel interfacing. Ideally, I'd like to be able to connect one of these to a Pi in parallel mode. SPI is too demanding on the Pi and results in slow display updates.

Is there any way to directly connect one of these displays to a Pi without an intermediate board (in parallel mode)? I don't know enough to say whether these pins would directly translate to DE, HSYNC, VSYNC and PCLK. I haven't been able to find any great datasheets for these displays.

Don't contact me about obtaining my board files (as you will not get them). If my Boards or PCB Kits are sold out, they will be restocked as soon as I can get them and there is demand for them. You can join the mailing list on my Website to be notified when they are available.
