A Fallout themed project

So, my friend just bought a new Fallout 76 Pip-Boy 2000 Mark 6 kit, and we were looking to upgrade it with a screen, a speaker in the speaker grill, and battery charger, 2Ah -ish sized battery, and a Pi Zero W. We were wondering if anyone had advice on creating a remote controller that would magnetically attach to the main body, via IR, but we lack the expertise to do so, and want advice. Also, if possible, does anyone know what pins the MintyPi board uses and what they're for?
