Introducing - GBA SP Zero

Post by aarkay14 » Sat Jul 13, 2019 7:02 am

Hello All!

Developed a Pi based game boy in the SP shell in my free time, just a few pictures for you:

Features:
1. Fits a GBA SP shell with minimal mods.
2. Can use a 1300 mAh li-po battery (if someone can make a custom battery that will be great!)
3. Drives a 2.9 Inch IPS 320x240 LCD.
4. CM102S/S+ implemented.
5. USB-C for charging.
6. LED Status indicators present - Charge - orange, Run - Green, Low battery - Red, WIFI On - Blue.
7. Safe shutdown in hardware.

Current Status: Need to Program Arduino and write code to run the 2.9Inch IPS LCD.

Please let me know your opinions on this. I am willing to co-develop this board further with a person who know good Arduino SPI programming and can implement a better safe shutdown. I have to do further testing..

Work log: = Power testing is complete, designed a new better Safe Shutdown circuit, the old one was having current leak issues, need to check the LCD display now. Rest is Ok!

That's one beefy ceramic cap, you doing some kind of boosting? I would avoid boosting to be honest since the pi and screen function well off of 3.3v and battery. Unless the screen require higher voltages.

Yes, I was boosting 3.7 to 5V for the arduino and the audio IC.

Dear All,

Unfortunately, recently some things have happened in my life which have caused me to give up on this project. My initial design was as below:

Image

I want to give away the project to another person who can continue the work, for a simple price of 35USD + shipping. My project box will include the hardwares that I bought for this and 3 prototype PCBs. I will also give the person the PCB files in eagle (BRD and SCH) format.

I hope another person can use this design and complete my dream of the build.
Please PM me if anyone is interested to take this box from me. I am sorry for giving up on this but I am in a tight shape with regards to money and need to clean my house.

Kind Regards,
Rama

Just so everyone knows I took him up on the offer and when time permits I will work on this project. Although the LCD seems to be SPI I will try to get it working as DPI in the end build.
