Vacuum fluorescent display with RPI Zero W

Post by momoster69 » Sat Oct 26, 2019 7:27 am

Hi Everyone,

I have gotten my hands on an AOTOM 20070-1A04 VFD (3 pin spi) (https://vfdclock.jimdo.com/2017/05/02/aotommodule/) and I am not sure how to interface it to the Raspberry Pi Zero W. I found an Arduino sample code (https://pastebin.com/Ap6n5cmw) which provided me a pin-out and definition of each spi pin of the display to the Arduino, it works just fine. However, I am not really sure how to wire it correctly to the RPI ZW as the display has three pin spi output (DIN, CLK, STB) while RPI has 4 pin spi. What I have done so far followed this diagram (https://os.mbed.com/media/uploads/wim/s ... 12_sch.jpg) in which I wired the VFD to the raspberry pi to the RPI's spi and then did the spidev-test, in which it worked/passed. I just do not know how to begin experimenting and writing code for it, I would rather stick to python for this as I am somewhat more comfortable with it. I also found this page: https://os.mbed.com/users/wim/code/PT63 ... T6315.cpp/ in which uses the same driver chip (PT6315) as my aotom? and I think its written in C and in a format that would not work with the rpi, like the I/O of the spi may not match and I am completely frustrated with this. I was wondering if anyone could help me out and sorry if I am posting in the wrong section.

Thanks Friends
