Re: Worlds Smallest Pi Based Gaming Device (possibly)
Just a quick update
So I thought I would knock up a bit of a case for it. But we dont want to go making some massive box that will remove all the skinny goodness, we want to keep the casing as minimal as the rest of the project...
So I signed up to OnShape and got designing.....
and the result was thus
Looks pretty good!! even if I do say so myself!!
The design is not perfect though i had designed the back piece with little pegs, which i thought would push through the holes in the pi and pcb, locking it all together.
Apparently these are too difficult to print, and the sizing comes out way too big anyhoo, so there is nothing but an elastic band holding it all together at the moment. I will rethink the mounting, maybe some screws or something so it is nice and solid.
To be continued.............

Very nice! I know your trying to keep the form factor to a minimum but why not make it just a few mm bigger and cover the screen bezel to give it a a more clean look? It's so small of a case you can also design it to just snap together rather easily. Good work though.

Re: Worlds Smallest Pi Based Gaming Device (possibly)
i think i lucked out really. both the fb_st7735r (128x160) and the ili9163 (128x128) work on my screen, but i had issues with getting screen size/rotation working. I did mention it to notro https://github.com/notro/fbtft/issues/453 and it seems the drivers were tweaked to some modules. I need to play with the fbflex driver which will allow the tweaking of the initialisation commands to get it all correct (im currently running the pi rotated 180 because i cant get the driver to rotate the screen )kite wrote: ↑Thu May 18, 2017 4:58 amLooks fantastic!! Did you have any issues getting your screen working? I'm trying to get a 1.8" based on the ST7735R (using an Arduino sketch it uses the 'blacktab' defines to get it to work!) and it's not working (white screen, driver loads fine I can see debug messages and logic scope traces).
I saw on your hackaday link that you were able to define it as the ili**** LCD as well, is there an easier way to determine what these LCDs actually are because the people selling them don't know or don't care
i think the only sure fire way to know what driver you have is to read the datasheet. but Chinese sellers see the word datasheet and reply about postage
i cant go making it too big now can I i might be tempted to go a little bigger, it would make some things easier, but then im not one for making my life easy!!HoolyHoo wrote: ↑Thu May 18, 2017 5:20 amVery nice! Re: Worlds Smallest Pi Based Gaming Device (possibly)
apparently rule 101 of design for 3D printing is make your holes slightly bigger than you actually need them (and your pins slightly smaller) as there's usually a slight bulge to the print (which is one of the reasons why 3D printing usually ends up bulkier than an injection molded equivalent part) the exact amount depends on your printer, filament, ambient temperature, day of the week, phase of the moon....
also make sure to tweet Zep (@Lexaloffle) with your pico-8 pics. he's a sucker for seeing his creation on tiny devices.

Wow! Something I never thought I'd see... a gaming mod on the raspberry pi front page! (Well okay, mag pi...)

Well done sir

It's partly because I sent magPi an email asking them to do a feature!
But hey, you don't ask, you don't get!

Any chance on selling a kit to make one of these? I would really like a new gaming keychain for my keys.

I might make a kit once I have ironed out the kinks. Just working on version 2.0
