Bluetooth Speaker in a Coworker's Monitor (prank)

Post by wermy » Wed Jul 26, 2017 9:49 am

This is a project I did quite a while ago as a prank - someone in the discord chat reminded me of it and I thought you guys would appreciate it. :D

I had a coworker named Kyle. While he was on vacation I took apart a cheap bluetooth speaker, disassembled his monitor and hid it inside, wired up to the USB hub for constant power.

Then I went around the office and got a bunch of coworkers to let me record them saying "Hey Kyle!" Over the next several months, every week or two, I'd play one of those clips through the speaker when he wasn't expecting it and record his reaction. He thought he was going crazy:

Brilliant! I remember the days I used to be able to get away with things like that. Like the time I remotely installed the blue screen of death screen saver on a colleague's PC, and watched as he restarted his machine about 5 times. Then I went to lunch and when I got back, he was reinstalling his OS!!!

Or the more low tech getting a free cheap alarm clock in the mail that I set to beep every 15 minutes. Which i then sellotape under a colleague's desk in line with his desktop, so he thoight the beeps were coming from there. It was only when he wrenched the lid off and yanked the internal speaker out, that he realised it wasnt coming from the PC!

Man. If I tried anything LIKE that now, it'd be instant dismissal...
