Portable Pi-hole

Hello Sudomodders,
I do a ton of traveling and one of the things that I miss the most, other than my wife and my cat, is being connected to my Pi-hole on my home network.
This got me thinking; how I could travel around with a portable Pi-hole without opening up my home network to VPN? I had a portable wireless router kicking around my travel bag and I was using it to connect my devices to it while piggy backing off of public wifi; using the wireless router as a hotspot.
Then it dawned on me... I could connect the Pi to the wireless hotspot and run Pi-hole on my own private portable network. As an added bonus, the wireless router has a USB port so I soldered up a USB shim to the Pi, printed a case, and stuck it into the wireless router.
Problem solved!
My next steps will be to crack open the wireless router and remove the usb port so I can solder the Pi directly to the wireless router and leave it inside the routers case. I'll post back when I feel more brave.
What is Pi-hole? To put it simply, Pi-hole is a network ad blocker. More info can be found on the Pi-hole project here: https://pi-hole.net/
