Waveshare 1.3inch IPS 240x240 Display - First project.

Post by Palmore » Fri Jan 04, 2019 4:36 pm

I started on this some time ago, and needed to get a 3D Printer as I couldn't find a case to match.

I'm using a Waveshare 1.3inch IPS 240x240 Display hat with the built in buttons and joystick I've since added a 500mAh battery, charging circuit, volume pot, mini amp and micro speaker.

I finally got around to finalizing the top section and buttons (minus the D pad) on my 3D printer and everything is working great for this portion, now I can move to the middle layer for the Pi Zero itself, then finish with the bottom layer housing the battery and charging circuit.

I'm new to a lot of this, so forgive my noobness. I'm still waiting on Thingiverse to allow me to share my 3D files as well (new account, thus 24 hour wait time before I can publish them.)

This will be slow going between taking down my Christmas lights and daily life, but I wanted to share what I've done thus far.

I finally took a couple of minutes last night and printed out a Joystick.
I'm now actually printing out a new case that adds a small lip / support to include a plexiglass window for the LCD screen.

Sometime this weekend I hope to work on the middle section that houses the Pi itself and get it booting back up to test game play with the new buttons and case ;)

I was finally able to publish the STL files on Thingiverse, I had to wait 24hours due to my account being new.

https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3334127

Any changes I make to the files will be updated there.

I'm working out the final fitment issues for the middle section housing the Pi, but it's fairly close now.
I've also almost finished the base, but debating if I want to add some clips or guides for the battery charging circuit to fit snugly into.

I have yet to upload the mid and base sections, as I am still working out the small design changes, and I may still end up keying the parts so they slot into place.

I almost forgot, I recorded this a couple of months ago before I started working on the 3D printed case.

That's crazy, I just posted one almost exactly like that!

Also, not sure if this forum is dead. Or maybe the locals only talk to each other?

I've got a couple of these hats I bought on a whim but never got around to making a case, thanks for sharing! I'll try to find time to print off a copy, life's been crazy lately but my better 3/4 has to work tomorrow so I might actually have half a Saturday off myself.

looking good :) its just a shame they didnt add many buttons on them
Get a small cheep LCD in your project https://www.sudomod.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=2312
Wrap it all round a battery https://www.sudomod.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=2292
Or use a custom PCB to make it really small https://www.sudomod.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=2512
or make it really really really really tiny!! https://www.sudomod.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=2919

Thanks guys!

I've been working on the case design for the middle and bottom section abit more last night and finally pulled them off the printer this afternoon.

The fit is nice, but I still have a few items to clean up before I post the new parts on Thingiverse

I've been trying to keep a log of what all I purchased and how everything has been wired up at the link below.

http://www.crackedconsole.com/community ... sion-1-0b/

I'm going to add some tabs to each layer to help things line up abit during assembly, as well as some mount points in the lower layer for the battery, charger and speaker.

Lastly I am going to make a second middle layer with a bottom, for those that wish to power it off a USB micro with out the need for a batter extension on the case.

Annnnddd.. I think I may try and thin it up abit, shave some off the top and bottom to lower its profile as much as possible.

And moosepr, you aren't kidding bud, the buttons were a pain to get right and functional in the 3D print. I still may toy with their design abit, but for now thats on the back burner.
