Guide to Easy Automatic Save State Backups

Post by HoolyHoo » Sat Oct 08, 2016 8:35 am

Here’s a pretty easy way to back up your save states on your GBZ to any computer and keep them in sync. It uses the free btsync client. Best thing about this is that you can sync the GBZ to any platform computer (Linux, Windows, Mac, iPhone, Android, Raspberry Pi) automatically as soon as both are on Wi-Fi. It will automatically detect when this happens and sync in the background transparent to the GBZ user. All backed up files will appear on the desktop folder selected.

Follow these steps to set up btsync:

1. Download to your desktop btsync from: https://www.resilio.com/platforms/desktop/
2. Set it up for your desktop. Should be self explanatory.
3. On your GBZ command prompt type: cd /home/pi
4. Then get btsync for GBZ by typing: wget "https://download-cdn.getsync.com/stable ... arm.tar.gz"
5. Unpack by typing: tar xzf resilio-sync_arm.tar.gz
6. Setup cron job to start btsync on boot by typing: crontab -e
7. In the editor add: sudo /home/pi/rslsync --webui.listen 0.0.0.0:8888
8. Save and close.
9. Get your IP address by typing: ifconfig. Remember it.
10. Reboot by typing: sudo reboot
11. Go to web browser on your desktop and type: http://WHATEVERYOURIPWAS:8888
12. You should see btsync web interface for GBZ. Follow directions. Should be self explanatory. If you get asked for login then type in what you setup on btsync GBZ.
13. Set up which folder you would like to keep in sync.
14. By default, .srm and .state files, are saved in rom directory. This can be changed by editing /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch.cfg and changing the default directories.
15. Once sync folder has been setup in GBZ, right click and get the read and write key to pair with your desktop.
16. On your desktop mouse over to the gear options icon, and click manual connection…
17. Copy your key from GBZ and everything should sync.
18. You can use this to back up your save states or any folder pretty easily.
