Re: [Guide] ili9341 SPI TFT Screen on Retropie
Made this quick video here showcasing the differences. The SPI system is running a slightly different ROM and I think my SD image is searching for USB audio, so it's slightly slower and less fluid. I'm using MoosePr's optimized config from his YouTube video as well.
I like the screens! I need to get the rest of the system attached and then put it in a build (Maybe a Pi3 build?).

I got a system thrown together, and did a side-by-side of the composite vs SPI for giggles here.

personally i prefer the look of the SPI screens.....goosewerks wrote: ↑Mon May 28, 2018 2:26 amI got a system thrown together, and did a side-by-side of the composite vs SPI for giggles here.
the only downside to them is....
(and its not the 60FPS that some are obsessed with trying to achieve for these retro system emulators)
but the viewing angle....
i've tried 18pin screens that state they are wide viewing and also 40pin screens that state the same....
they all have issues unfortunately....

I'm not going to even touch the 60fps fandom. The viewing angles aren't that great, but the clarity is nice. I will get used to it though; this is finally a personal build.VeteranGamer wrote: ↑Mon May 28, 2018 8:19 ampersonally i prefer the look of the SPI screens.....goosewerks wrote: ↑Mon May 28, 2018 2:26 amI got a system thrown together, and did a side-by-side of the composite vs SPI for giggles here.

Does anybody know how much better the "wide viewing angle" screens actually are? Even if it's a slight improvement over ones that aren't marketed as one.
It was my first time using an SPI earlier today (37 pin, 6 o'clock, 2.8") and the glare from looking at it head-on in landscape made me feel a little crosseyed.

im not sure how much better they are. It seems that most Chinese sellers dont know what IPS is, and sell them as the 'wide angle' screens. It could also be that they are just selling normal screens as 'wide angle' just to make more money!!
The crux of it all, is that they are really designed for portrait usage, and so in landscape, each eye is looking at a different angle on there and you are seeing the varying shades

Get a small cheep LCD in your project https://www.sudomod.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=2312
Wrap it all round a battery https://www.sudomod.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=2292
Or use a custom PCB to make it really small https://www.sudomod.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=2512
or make it really really really really tiny!! https://www.sudomod.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=2919

The Chinese know of wide viewing angle as either "All Viewing Angle" or "All O'Clock" from my dealings. A true wide viewing angle looks great and is noticeably sharper, I think it's that film on the LCD like the ones I had on the mintyPi v2.
