Guide part 5 - low-pass filter

Post by jhillman » Sat Oct 08, 2016 1:32 pm

I just completed part 5 of the guides including wiring things up to test the audio. The audio works, but coming out of the speaker, it is very quiet. I can hear it, but just barely. Does this indicate that there is something wrong with my filter? When I plug headphones in, the sound is much louder, but there is a lot of noise; I am new to emulators and all of this, so this might be normal. I haven't gotten to the part where I add a volume wheel, but that will just make it quieter, since it is adding resistance. Is all this normal? If not, what can I do to troubleshoot? Is there a way I can test my low-pass filter with a multimeter or something? I used a 10nF capacitor from the original Gameboy controller board rather than a 33nF, if that makes a difference (the guide says 10nF is fine).

Thanks!

Shouldn't this be in the General GBZ section and not the guides?

You will have to go into the Retropie settings and change the volume to max so it sounds louder, I also discovered that adding a 2.2uf or 4.7uf capacitor in series with the PWM Audio filters some of the fuzz.

There is also a line of code to put in the config.txt to help with static noise. Search the forum fot Audio Dither.
