Charging/USB over 4 pin 3.5mm Audio Jack

I have an MP3 player that uses a 4 pin stereo headphone jack for both audio output and USB charging/data. Uses a cable that looks like this:
Anyone ever used this in a project before? Seems like it would be handy for small handhelds.
