You can use a regular zero, you'll just have to make sure you have all your games and everything set up just how you want it before putting it together. It would be annoying to have to take it apart every time you want to add a game.

I have a test board that is the standard Zero and I just use the Zero W to set everything up and move the SD card over to the other board.
