Newbie Attempting to build MintyPi

Post by Epicminer3213 » Sun Jul 29, 2018 5:48 pm

Hello!

I want to try building a mintyPi and was wondering if you guys had any advice for a first timer? Also, I had a question: Would building a MintyPi in a custom wooden case be a good idea? I thought it might work and make it a bit more personal because me and my dad(who is an amazing person) both wanted to do this.

Thank you for your time and have a great day! :D

:) I am not sure a wooden case is the best idea making this project but i don't really know.
I am also just starting this project but i have already ordered the parts.
Also you have to contact Helder who is on a vacation right now until Thursday then contact him about getting the button PCB and screen>

Hope I helped! :)

I see no reason why a wooden case would not work. No different really than a fully printed enclosure. Sounds neat to me, what type of wood were you considering? Are you going to route out a piece of wood or glue a box together?

I'm probably gonna glue a case together from some oak. Maybe something else Its still in the works

Even using 1/4 inch, your going to need to either thin the areas where plugs and buttons go or use bigger holes and longer buttons. Would still be worth it. I've got some scrap maple I might try the same thing if I ever get time. I'm envisioning what looks like a jewelry box for my wife, then she opens it and sees the mintyPi!

I know I'm a month late. Anyways, the charging port would be the most difficult part. The thought of using veneer just crossed my mind

Veneer might be too brittle, I'd be worried about cracking it when plugging in. I think a hole just big enough to accommodate a small plug ought to look ok.
