I think pictures of your soldering iron could help. I'm sure everyone here uses different soldering irons, there isn't a standard as far as I'm aware of

Get a cheap 898D+ for less than $50 on various online retailers. Wermy and I both use this model.

Don't contact me about obtaining my board files (as you will not get them). If my Boards or PCB Kits are sold out, they will be restocked as soon as I can get them and there is demand for them. You can join the mailing list on my Website to be notified when they are available.

I use one of these for my hot-air/re-work.

I have no idea if the actual soldering iron is any good (it probably is fine) because it's at my hackerspace where there are also a pair of weller and antex temp controlled irons, and as I now have small kids running around the house and no "shed"/workshop, just the kitchen table, I do all my soldering there.
ones like this:

and this:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ANTEX-690D-Di ... 2571912977
(probably not the best examples price wise, they were just the first ones I found)
both of which are top notch stations but as you can see, a lot more expensive comparatively. however that 898D+ mentioned by helder looks like a bargain. see also Hakko soldering stations for good value
