Final measurements

Post by Robochris » Fri Jul 28, 2017 3:38 pm

I thought I'd be ok with it not closing completely. Well it's gotten the better of me.

What's your measurement from the faceplate to the rim of the tin. Mine is about 6mm and still touches the buttons when it closes.

I have another tin I can swap lids with and have another screen back printing now.

Just curious, if yours closes completely, what's your clearance?

What are you using to attach the screen back to the lid? Are you certain your button faceplate is sitting flat on the base plate's screw posts? Is there any bulging in the middle that could indicate wires between the pi and the battery? It's a tight fit but if everything's arranged properly it *should* have just enough room to close.

Vhb tape. It is 0.5mm too thick but I've read others that used it too..

No, but no noticeable bulging. I used a ds lite speaker which is a little bigger than what you reccomend. I filed down the lip that was on the print to compensate for that.

Should the screen bezel stick out further than the depth of the lid?

Is the VHB tape necessary? Wouldn't regular double-sided tape work just as well, and be much thinner?

Or just epoxy the base plates to the tin?

Regular double sided tape may not hold up in the long run. Epoxy would work but it's so much easier to lay 2 strips of VHB and mount the base plate.

I used 1mm vhb for screen bracket with no issues. Is your screen bracket nice and centered also?

The bottom half looks about as low as mine, assuming no raising in front corners etc? I had a bit of this due to excess wire which I then removed to fix the issue.

Mines snug but certainly closes easily enough.

Any more pics??

What other pics can help? I got the top half apart from the tape.

Wires inside are somewhat neatly ran. (Opinion).

I can feel the start/select buttons clicking when I try to close completely.

Is this hinge piece supposed to be under the lip of the tin?

Perhaps a shot / measurement pic facing the other way where the top of the screen / lid will close into.

You should ideally have the same clearance all the way around. If your start / select buttons are clicking that suggests that end is raised too much.
